C. E. Neil, who was knocked down and run over by a Santa Fe freight engine while working in the yard of the Benson Lumber Company Friday morning, died last night
at 7:30 o'clock as a result of the injuries sustained.
At the time of the accident, Neil was engaged in picking up lumber that had fallen upon the track from a passing wagon and did not see or hear the approaching engine. The wheels of the engine passed over his left leg, crushing it from the ankle to the knee. The thigh bone of the right leg was also badly broken and crushed. The left leg was amputated at the knee in an effort to save Neil's life, but he failed to rally from the first shock.
The deceased was employed as a sawyer in the Benson mill.
He leaves a widow and several adult children.
