AXEL T PETERSON, SR.

Axel T. Peterson Sr., 94, of Vero Beach, FL, died Saturday in Indian River Memorial Hospital. He was born May 3, 1886, in Tyler, Minn., and moved to Vero Beach 66 years ago from Moline, Ill. He was a prominent citrus grower and has been in the citrus business since he moved to Vero Beach. He has been a Mason for more than 50 years and had received the order of the Scottish Rites. He was a member of the building committee of the first Vero Beach Masonic Temple. Mr. Peterson was a charter member of the Community Church. He served as an inland waterway commissioner for 16 years and helped develop the channel through the Indian River.

Survivors include one daughter, Pauline Washington, Vero Beach; four sons, Axel T. Jr., Edward F. and Fred H. Peterson; 17 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Evangelical Covenant Church. There will be Masonic services at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The Cox-Gifford-Baldwin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
