HARRY S. COVER DIES OF HEART ATTACK SUNDAY

Funeral rites were held Wednesday at the Eastman chapel for Harry S. Cover, 80, who died suddenly of a heart attack. The Rev. A. C. Rostron of the Community church conducted the service and interment was at Riverside cemetery beside his wife and other members of his family.

Mr. Cover came over from Cody to spend Memorial Day, and Sunday some friends, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Peterson, were taking him back to Cody when he died very suddenly in the car. He had been in apparent good health and had sung and talked as they drove along, and before they reached the vicinity of Grass Creek he suddenly expired. They brought him back to Thermopolis and members of his family were notified in California.

Mr. Cover was born at McComb, Illinois, November 29, 1861, and when 17 years of age came to Wyoming, stopping first at Laramie. He was married to Luanna Stanley at the coal mining town of Carbon in 1882, and they moved to Buffalo. They made a trip by wagon back to the home of his parents in Missouri.

In 1895 they came to the Big Horn Hot Springs for a short stay but returned the following year to make their home. They saw the development of the State park from land that belonged to the Indians to its present state. When the town of Thermopolis was surveyed in 1897 Mr. Cover made the stakes that marked the block corners. He and Mrs. Cover opened the first business in the new town, a cafe in a tent, and he became one of the leading business men of the town.

Mr. Cover was the last member of the original land board of Thermopolis that was approved by the government. The board consisted of Ira E. Jones, J. W. Calloway, W. M. Neece, Hank Cover and J. B. Chase. Most of them have been dead for many years. Mr. Cover served as deputy sheriff under Frank Stough when this was Fremont county and was marshal of Thermopolis several terms.

He is the last of the charter members of Thermopolis lodge No. 26, I. O. O. F., and the Odd Fellows had charge of the service at the grave.

Mrs. Cover died in 1935 in this city, and a son, Harry, is also buried here. A daughter, Luanna, who died in infancy, is buried at Big Horn.

Mr. Cover was a devoted father, and had many friends throughout Wyoming who will remember his kindly deeds.

He is survived by three sons, Orville and J. A. of Thermopolis; Elmo of Cody; two daughters, Mrs. Ollie Coleman of Beverly Hills, California, and Mrs. Essie Fletcher of Redondo Beach, California. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. D. J. Wood, Mrs. Mollie Colman, and Mrs. Harry Reed, all of Sheridan. All were present for the last rites.

Business houses of the city were closed during the funeral services.
