Roy O. Carr, 66, retired carpenter and a veteran of World War I, died late Saturday night, July 15, 1961 at his home in the eastern ouskirts of Atkinson, Nebraska following a heart attack. Mr. Carr had suffered with a heart ailment for a long time, and on several occasions during the past few years had been hospitalized after attacks.

He was a native of Springview, Nebraksa and had lived in the Atkinson community 11 years.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday at the Methodist Church in Atkinson. The Rev. Raymond Kersting, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, officiated. Mrs. Jay Jungman played the organ music, and hymns were sung by Mrs. Dean Fleming and Mrs. William Schorn. World War I veterans and Legionnaires attended the rites in a body. Burial was at Springview, and the Springview American Legion Post had charge of military rites at the grave.

Mr. Carr was the son of Nebraska pioneer settlers, Luther R. Carr and Alice Rogers Carr. He was born May 2, 1895 in Keya Paha County and spent most of his life in the vicinity of Springview.

He attended schools in Keya paha County and the College of Agriculture in Lincoln, and later went to Montana where he took a homestead prior to entering the Army for service in World War I. During the war he served in France with Battery E, 338th Field Artillery. Immediately following the war he engaged in freighting and trucking in the Springview-Ainsworth area.

He was married to Erma Ballard on April 7, 1920 at Springview. They lived on farms and ranches in Keya Paha County for many years and then moved to Lincoln where they resided for five years. In the spring of 1950 they moved to Atkinson, and he built a new home at the east edge of town.

Mr. Carr was a member of the Methodist Church, the American Legion, World I Veterans organization, and the Last Man's Club, all of Atkinson.

He is survived by his wife, Erma; two daughters, Mrs. James W. (Alice) McIntosh of Casper, Wyoming, and Mrs. Lloyd G. (Thelma) Russell of Bellvue; one son, Roger A. Carr of Atkinson; four sisters, Mrs. Laurits Johnson of Bend, Oregon, Mrs. Henry Johnson of Springvieww, Mrs. Frank Sloan of Springview, and Mrs. Charles Sloan of Atkinson; one brother, George H. Carr of Springview; and seven grandchildren.
