William Baumgartner, 92, of Breckenridge, MN, formerly of Rothsay, MN, died December 8, 2005 at St. Francis Healthcare Campus in Breckenridge.
William "Bill" Baumgartner was born May 24, 1913 in Deerhorn Township, Wilkin County, rural Wolverton, MN the son of John and Emma (Schuler) Baumgartner. They moved to Manston Township west of Rothsay, MN in 1927. He grew up and lived all his life on the family farm until entering St. Francis Nursing Home in July, 2003.
On July 16, 1947 he married Mary Catherine McKigney at St. Thomas Chapel in Kent, MN. The couple had twelve children, two died in infancy. Mary died on May 2, 1993.
Bill was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Kent, MN. He enjoyed farming, raising cattle, auction sales and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing whist, being outside, and going for rides whenever he could. In his younger days he enjoyed going to dances at the Pavilion in Breckenridge.
Bill is survived by his sons, Billy (Barb) Baumgartner, Jim (Becky) Baumgartner, Tom (Sue) Baumgartner, all of Breckenridge, MN, Dick Baumgartner, Rothsay, MN; his daughters, Cathy (Andy) Roberts, Wadena, MN, Ruth (Steve) Lorshbough, Erhard, MN, Sharon (Bernie) Paler, Rothsay, MN, Elaine (Ernie) Balken, Rothsay, MN, Marcy (Bob) Lehn, Breckenridge, MN, Dorothy (Kent) Smith, Wadena, MN, his 18 Grandchildren and 3 Step Grandchildren; his 14 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Step great grandchild; his sister, Inez Fankhanel, Barnesville, MN; many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
He is preceded by, his parents, John and Emma Baumgartner; his wife, Mary Catherine Baumgartner; his children, Elizabeth and Robert both in infancy; his great grandson, Samuel Baumgartner; his brothers, Henry "Mike", LaVern "Vern", and John Jr. "Johnnie"; his sisters, Ella Rinnels, Leta Miller, Hazel Miller, Edith Ronningen; two brothers and one sister in infancy.
Visitation: Sunday, December 11, 2005 from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM, Prayer Service at 6:00 PM at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN. There will be also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
