Gideon served as a Corporal with the 28th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, Company E (Civil War). He was wounded at Ringgold, Georgia, on November 27, 1863. Gideon was a Veteran soldier. He was originally buried in the Dunmore Cemetery, Lackawanna County, but was removed in 1921. (see findagrave memorial 5966744)
