--------------------

Originally I gave a definite location for this burial. Unfortunately I was remembering a different Williams burial at the cemetery. There are many missing and broken stones at Rahmiller, so it is possible that his burial at this location was once marked (as is indicated at IowaWPAgraves.org). But I was not able to find it with my last visit (July 2012). What is encouraging is that someone has trimmed the grass at this cemetery, and has spent time organizing the broken stones with their families and perhaps their original locations. There is still a small pile of broken stones in the NW corner, and with the location of the broken stone of Ann M (HALL) WILLIAMS, there are several poured bases, and missing stones.

The Iowa Legislature has a bio on him which can be accessed here ( www dot legis dot iowa dot gov / legislators / informationOnLegislators / historicalInformation - by removing the extra spaces and replacing the word dot with a period). That information originially said that he was born in Crawford County, Indiana. It has lately been changed to Cayuga, New York. By the time that Wright was born (1804), his father Robert had moved their family to what at that time was Cayuga County, New York. It wasn't until just before 1817 that Robert moved his family to Indiana. Brother Zebina was born in New York state in 1915 (though the exact location of Zebina's birth seems to be lost to history). Robert was certainly living in what later became Nichols, New York in 1812. 1817 finds the family in Fayette Co, Indiana. That they were ever in Crawford County, Indiana is a subject for speculation. We do not know how he met Miss Johnson whose siblings were also married in Shelby County, Indiana, but his marriage to her there 10 September 1829 is well documented. Old family information tells us that Wright and his new bride may have moved to Pennsylvania, as daughter Adelia H. Williams was born there in about 1834 (could this be where Wright learned about Law and Politics?). By the 1840 US Census, we find him in Louisa County, Iowa with a wife and two children. The 1850 US Census also shows him as a resident of Louisa County, but now his family has expanded to six children (with Adelia now age 16).

EDIT submitted by Findagrave member #50563466 on 9 Mar 2023 with the following suggestions -
- Birth year of 1804, be changed to 5 Jan 1804 (this date is shown in the bios presented by the Iowa Legislature. While no one has presented proof for this date, this descendant of the Williams family believes the date once existed in a family bible now long gone.) APPROVED
- Birth location previously shown as New York,USA be changed to Cayuga,Cayuga County,New York,USA (while it is with little doubt that his birth occurred in Cayuga County, New York, the actual location is of some dispute. His father seems to be documented in Milton (now Genoa), Cayuga Co, NY in the 1800 Census, and in Locke, Cayuga County, NY in the 1810 Census. Both of these locations were subject to many boundary and name changes over the years. One should also note that NY State calls large areas of a county a "town" which similar to the classification of a "township" in other states. However, in no way do we discover reference to the village of Cayuga in Cayuga County, New York.) Will change this manually to Cayuga County, New York as a concession to this edit. However because of this, honorable findagraver #50563466 will see a "Declined" notice.
- Death Date previously shown as 1854, be changed to 21 Nov 1854 (Believe that this date comes from IowaWPA Graves. However, one resource tells us he died in 1857. ). APPROVED
