Robert John Lensegrav, 88, longtime Lemmon area resident, died Saturday, September 4, 2004 at the Five Counties Nursing Home.
Robert was born February 16, 1916 to John and Alvilda (Olson) Lensegrav near Coal Springs, SD. He learned to speak English while he attended the Coal Springs School. As a young man he worked on a WPA Project building the Coal Springs Dam. Later he took over the family farm and milking cows kept him busy as he sold cream to the Coal Springs Store. After selling the farm he moved to Shadehill and worked for the Game, Fish and Parks Department and area farmers. Robert retired and moved to Lemmon in 1986.
After moving to Lemmon, Robert met his special friend, Barbara.
Robert married Hanna Flatmoe on June 18, 1943. They had three children-one daughter, Louise and two sons, Eric and Wayne.
Robert was a member of the Prairie Hills Church of God.
Robert is survived by a daughter, Louise Cain and husband Jack, Shadehill, two sons, Ric and wife Penny, Spearfish, SD and Wayne and wife Linda, Sturgis, SD and special friend, Barbara Olson. 6 grandchildren- Scott and Steve Lensegrav, Sturgis, Joel Lensegrav and Brandy Garcia, Rapid City and Carla Wallace, Sturgis and Kurt Wallace, Waverly and 11 great-grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ole Lensegrav, two half-sisters, Esther Esterby [sic] and Silvia [sic] Hammer, four half-brothers, Elf [sic] Hammer, Ovie [sic] Hammer, Earl Hammer and Berger Hammer.
The funeral service for Robert Lensegrav, age 88, was September 7, at the Prairie Hills Church of God in Lemmon. Pastor Steve Thomas officiated with burial in Greenhill Cemetery.
Serving as casketbearers were Lorraine Moore, Judy Maher, Larry Goodmanson, Dan Nelson, Dennis Peterson, Bill Penfield, and Paul Katus.
