Mr. Joseph Raymond Carroll, 95, of Solar Drive, Hudson, and formerly of Boone, died Sunday afternoon, July 13, 2003, at Hospice of Caldwell County.
He was born June 23, 1908 in Watauga County, a son of the late Charles E. and Emma Norris Carroll. Mr. Carroll was a member of the Hudson United Methodist Church and a former member of the Boone United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees, and was a member of the Methodist Men. He served as district Mechanic in charge of highway vehicle and machinery maintenance for Ashe, Avery, Watauga and Caldwell County.
Survivors include one daughter, Enid Coffey of Hudson; one son, Aaron J. Carroll of Hickory; one granddaughter, C. Lynn Coffey Smith and husband, Lynn E. Smith, of Hudson; one great-granddaughter, Meredith L. Smith Friga and husband, Paul, of Greenwood, Ind.; two brothers, Fred E. Carroll and wife, Cleo, of Boone, and Clint A. Carroll and wife, Zola, of Osborne, Idaho. He also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maude Moody Carroll; and two brothers, Ronda and Russell Carroll.
Services will be conducted Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Dr. Tim Brittain. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
