Isaac Allen was co-captain with Elam Brown of the wagon train leaving Missouri in May of 1846. It consisted of about 30 wagons with family and friends headed for Oregon. When they believed the crossing over the mountains to Oregon may be too difficult, they changed their direction to California arriving at Sutter's in October of 1846. However, in late August, Isaac died of "Mountain Fever" and was buried along the Humboldt River basin. It is interesting to note that during the trip, a group of wagons splintered off thinking they had a short cut. That group was delayed crossing over the Sierras and were stranded in Mountains in one of the worst storms anyone could remember. They were to become known as the Donner Party.
