Obituary:
Long Illness Fatal to Well Known Farmer.

Anton Petersen died here Monday. Funeral services held today. Anton Petersen, well known Audubon Township farmer, died Monday at his home Southeast of Exira following a long illness. Death was due to a complication of diseases due to his advanced age. He had been bedfast since June 7th. Mr. Petersen was born at Schleswig, Germany on March 10, 1861 and came to the United States in 1880, settling in Audubon. He worked there as a section hand 4 1/2 years then moved to Shelby county where he resided 24 years. In 1909 he purchased a farm of 160 acres in Audubon township where he had since resided. he was married to Anna Smith in 1880 just before coming to America. His wife preceded him in death 12 years ago.

He is survived by ten children as follows: Mrs. Christina Nelson of Exira, Mrs. Mary Salmonsen of Alder, Montana; Peter N. Petersen of Anita; Hans J.; and Andrew Petersen of Kerry Minnesota; Mrs. Anna Josephsen of Greenfield; Mrs. Martha Josephsen of Exira; Mrs. Lena Jensen of Pasadena, California; Arthur F. Petersen of Anita and Anton C. Petersen of Exira. One daughter, Clara, died in 1918 at the age of 18 years. He also leaves 37 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren to mourn his passing. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Exira Christian church at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Osgood of Nevada in charge. Burial was in the Exira Cemetery. -Audubon City Journal, October 15, 1936.
