Malissa Lizzie Jane Yates is the daughter of John Henry Yates and Amanda Louise Hammons. She was born in Snow Creek, Stokes county, NC and is a sister to John Thomas, Mary Yates Tilley, Rosa L, Gideon Banner, Joseph H, Nancy K and Minnie H Yates.
In 1896 she married Thomas "Tommie" Franklin Tilley and they are the parents of Mary Emma Tilley Tilley, Sarah "Sadie" Amanda Tilley Kiser Sizemore, James Harry Tilley, Luther Banner Tilley and Joe Henry Tilley.
Her mother was admitted to the asylum in 1916 and died here in 1925. She, too, is buried here.
Malissa's sister, Mary Yates Tilley, is also buried here.
Malissa was admitted to the asylum in Oct 1918 and died 24 Nov 1918 from "exhaustion of mania".
Her granddaughter placed a new marker in 2011.
