Samuel John McKee was born to David Charles & Henrietta McWillie McKee, the second son for this family directly from Ireland.
An ironic story that has come to surface since I have been researching family history is that in his early manhood, Sam worked in Colorado mining gold at the Cripple Creek mines. Sometime after my grandfather Daniel James McKee was born, Sam gave Dan a small gold ring and told him it had been made out of the Cripple Creek gold. In about 1955 when my first son was about three years of age, my Grandpa Dan McKee placed this ring on my little son's finger and looked at me and said, "If I ever want this back I will let you know." He never did ask for it back and the ring remained in the safety deposit box until 2006 after my Mom passed away and we were closing her estate, I gave the ring to my son who was about 55 years of age at the time. Never, in my wildest imagination could I have figured out exactly which Uncle had given this ring to Grandpa Dan, if I hadn't been into family research for many years. Proof that "what goes around, comes around."
Thanks, Uncle Sam! Guyetta McKee Cluck
