Henrietta McWillie married David Charles McKee in Parish Muckno, County Monaghan, Ireland on March 13, 1851. She and her new husband immediately set sail for America landing in New York where she gave birth to her first son Thomas in July of that same year. A couple of years later they had migrated to Pennsylvania where she gave birth to her second son Samuel. A couple of years later they were in Allamakee Co., Iowa where she gave birth to her third son David Charles McKee, Jr. (my great grandfather). By 1860 they were in Polk Co., Iowa where she gave birth to her fourth son William, then in 1861 her husband David died at the young age of 31 leaving her with four small sons and pregnant with her only daughter. She farmed her sons out to neighbors and went to work at a hotel in Des Moines for sometime, probably until she gave birth to her daughter. Some five years later she married a man by the name of John Lowe, also from Ireland. They had two children, a girl and a boy before she died in 1881, after having nursed her dying daughter of typhoid, she herself contracted the disease and died a couple of months later. At the time she died, her husband John Lowe had been away from home for about two years and learning of her death, he returned and tried to take her estate but her grown sons prevented this from happening. If it were not for this couragous lady I feel I wouldn't be here upon this earth today. S/GGGranddaughter: Guyetta McKee.
