Charles "Charlie" Alfred Lemons 83 of Figsboro Community in Martinsville died Wednesday May 14, 2008 at home. Born in Bassett the son of the late Charles Almon Lemons and the late Mary Turner Lemons, also preceded in death by two brothers Marvin Lemons and Tommy Lemons. He was a Boy Scout leader for 25 years with Troop #81 of the Blue Ridge Mtn Council, was a member of Jones Chapel Church of the Brethren, retired with 38 years of service with Dupont and 10+ with Piedmont Trust Bank, and courier for bank Services and in World War II in the US Navy and in all major battles of the Pacific Theater.
Surviving his wife Minnie Ruth Hairfield Lemons of the home, one daughter Cheryl Ann Lemons of Martinsville, three sons Charles Edward Lemons of Winston Salem, N.C., Al Ray Lemons of Hillsville and SSG Joseph Hairfield Lemons of Ft. Lee, VA. One grandson, four granddaughters and two great grandsons, sister Mae Frances Harris of Ridgeway and eight brothers Eugene Lemons of Martinsville, Robert D. Lemons of Martinsville, Cecil H. Lemons of Martinsville, Jack D. Lemons of Martinsville, Richard L. Lemons of Puerto Rico, Johnny S. Lemons of Martinsville, Lloyd D. Lemons of Snowflake, Arizona and Danny W. Lemons of Martinsville. Visitation will be Friday May 16 from 6-8 p.m. in the South Chapel of Bassett Funeral Service and at other times at the home 308 Figsboro Rd, Martinsville. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday May 17 at 11:00 a.m. in the South Chapel of Bassett Funeral Service with Rev. Barry Sink, Rev. Luther Hopkins and Rev. Jimmy Cannaday officiating with burial to follow in the Hairfield Cemetery on the Figsboro, RD. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society at 1079 Spruce St, Martinsville, VA. 24112. Bassett Funeral Service in Bassett is in charge of the arrangements.
