Alma Angeline (Mur) Overstreet, 94, of Buchanan Dam passed away June 29, 2010. She was born to Emmett and Viola (Peacock) Watson on Jan. 24, 1916 in Council Creek.
She married Benjamin Franklin Overstreet on Dec. 24, 1936 in Llano. They made their home on Lake Buchanan where they spent their entire married life. She helped establish the Buchanan Dam Church of Christ and the Sunday service originated in her house. Overstreet loved gardening, cooking, canning, pickling and visiting with family and friends. She was once voted best cook in Buchanan Dam, but most of all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Overstreet is survived by her son, Doug Overstreet and wife Wanda of Buchanan Dam; grandchildren, Teresa Schkade and husband James of Albany, Todd Overstreet of Buchanan Dam, Angie Kendall and husband Richard of Round Rock, Martin Collins and fiancé Christina May of Cedar Park; great-grandchildren, Staci Sours of Dallas, Robb Sours, Jami Schkade and Kelli Schkade, all of Albany, Amanda Klein of New Braunfels, Chelsea Klein of Abilene, Benjamin Collins of Cedar Park; son-in-law, Jimmy Collins of Austin, Benjamin Collins of Leander; brother, Raymond Watson of Inks Lake; Aliene Killebrew and husband Elgin of Cassie; Irene Womack of Bertram; and sister-in-law, Jerri Watson of Tow.
She was preceded in death by her mother; father; husband Benjamin Franklin Overstreet; daughter, Janie Collins; brothers, Ben and W.C. Watson; and sister, Inez Lewis.
Serving as pallbearers were Todd Overstreet, Martin Collins, James Schkade, Richard Kendall, Robb Sours and Jimmy Collins.
A visitation was held 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 1 at Putnam Funeral Home in Kingsland. Funeral services were 9 a.m. Friday, July 2 at Buchanan Dam Church of Christ. Interment followed at Bluffton Cemetery. An online guest register may be signed at www.putnamfunerals.com.
