Mae Viola and Effie Dearmon's mother died Feb. 1897 in Texas when Mae was 6 years old. Census records indicate Mae lived with Effie's family. Effie was the oldest of nine children: Rosa Frances, Lizzie Florence, William Thomas "Will", Chloa Belle, Mary Josephine "Josie", George Edward, John Monroe "Johnny" and Mae Viola.
Effie was born when the Dearmon family lived in Waterloo, Lawrence County, Ohio. They moved to Wisconsin and she and Charles and their five sons lived in Stevens Point, Portage County, 1905 according to Wisconsin State Census. By 1900 the McKitrick family lived in Clayton, Crawford County, Wisconsin. The 1910 census enumerated this family in North East, Bend County, Colorado. Effie died at age 44 from tuberculosis in Colorado and was buried in Lamar. The 1920 census: Charles had remarried and his sons, Ivan and Arthur, all lived in a hotel in Lamar, Colorado. By 1930, Arthur lived with his brother, Eldon, and family in Wisconsin.
