OGLESBY, CAROLYN VANCE Feb. 8, 1921-May 24, 2010 Carolyn Vance Oglesby died peacefully at her home Monday morning, May 24, 2010, after an extended illness. A native of Gadsden, AL, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor (Mayme Caddell) Vance. She attended the University of Montevallo and graduated from Auburn University in 1943. She and her husband of 66 years, Sabert Oglesby, were married March 4, 1944, during World War II. They have been residents of Birmingham since 1951. Carolyn worked as secretary to the president of American National Bank in Gadsden and later at Alabama Power Company in Birmingham. Carolyn loved music, playing and teaching piano for many years. She was active in the Birmingham Music Club and other cultural organizations, and a supporter of Indian Springs School and Birmingham Southern College music programs. A warm and caring person, she had many friends. Accompanying her husband, she traveled widely, developing lasting friendships in Japan, Italy, China, and England.

She is survived by her husband, Sabert; their son Donald Oglesby of Miami, FL, grandsons Tom (Kristy) Oglesby of Miami; David Oglesby of Minneapolis; Stephen (Jackie) Oglesby of San Diego; and two great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alabama Symphony Orchestra or the music program of Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be Thursday, May 27, 6:30-8:00pm at Southern Heritage Funeral Home 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am Friday, May 28, at Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church, 3405 Brookwood Road, Birmingham.
