Regarding middle name: The middle initial S. has long been debated, some thinking it was for Sutherland which was his maternal grandmother's maiden name, some thinking it was for Samuel, his grandfather's name. A document in the files of descendant Irene Ingram Hardin reads, "(the County Clerk of McNairy County) gives the quotation of Lee Ingram of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, son of Lee Ingram (Leander Henderson Ingraham 1844-1909). He understood the father of James Menefee Ingraham that died 1890 at Lavaca, Ark., was John STROBLE Ingram, a native of Virginia, but he died in McNairy Cty., Tenn. in 1855."
