Nettie F. Engwall, 88, Aledo, died Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church, Aledo, with the Rev. David W. Schweppe officiating. Burial is in Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo, where Mercer County VFW Post 1571 Auxiliary will conduct services at 8 p.m. Memorials may be left to the Messiah Lutheran Church or the Mercer County VFW Post 1571 Auxiliary.

She was born July 29, 1913, in Aledo, a daughter of Earl and Carrie Brown Stallings. She received her education from the Aledo schools and married Oscar Engwall in Freeport, Ill. He died April 18, 1981.

She was a homemaker and was employed as a bookkeeper for the former Contel Telephone Company in Aledo, retiring in 1977.

She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, Aledo, the WELCA, the Mercer County VFW Post 1571 Auxiliary and was a charter member of the Business and Professional Women of Aledo. She enjoyed cooking, traveling and being with her family.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Dick Norton and a son and daughter-in-law Paul and Louise Engwall, all of Aledo; a daughter-in- law, Margaret Engwall, Viola; five grandsons, Scott Norton, Wildwood, Ill., Steven Norton, Galesburg, Jeffrey Engwall, Sherrard, Gregory Engwall, Aledo, David Engwall, Fort Worth, Texas; a granddaughter, Connie Lindsay, Viola; nine great-grandchildren, Kaitlin, Taylor and Allison Engwall, Mikhaila, Breanne, Zachary, Trevor and Lacey Norton and Erin Lindsay. Her parents, five sisters, three brothers, a son Earl, a grandson, Dennis, a great-granddaughter, Emma, and a daughter-in-law, Patty, preceded her in death.
