John S. Russel, 80, of 1916 13th St., Boise, died Friday, Jan. 17, 1986, in a Boise hospital of natural causes. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 21, at Summers Funeral Home of Boise.
Rev. Richard Terry of the First United Presbyterian Church will officiate.

Inurnment will be in Morris Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Russel, a retired principal was born Dec. 22, 1905, at Jacksonville, Ill., a son of Andrew and Clara Elizabeth Robbins Russel. He was a graduate of St. John's Military Academy at Delafield, Wis., and graduated from Illinois College at Jacksonville in 1931.

He married Miss Vera Edith Morris on May 31, 1931, at Jacksonville.
Mr. Russel obtained his Master's degree from the University of New Mexico at Las Vegas, N.M., in 1957. He later studied at the University of Arizona, [the] University of Northern Arizona, and at Leland Stanford University.

Mr. Russel had taught in Pontiac, Ill., and was principal at Carlos Gelbert Elementary School in Santa Fe, N.M. While studying at Highland University he was invited to work in the Boise school system. He was principal at Longfellow School, and later at Lincoln School. Mr. Russel retired in the spring of 1971.

He and Mrs. Russel had been married for over 54 years.

Survivors include his wife, Vera of Boise; two daughters, Susanne (Mrs. Frank) Urban of Huntsville, Ala., and Ruth (Mrs. Edward) Ellis of Boise; two grandsons; and two stepgrandsons. Four brothers and four sisters died earlier.

Friends may call today from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Summers Funeral Home in Boise, where the family will greet friends from 3 to 5 p.m.
