Vern L. McCreight, 89, of Aledo, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at the Mercer County Hospital in Aledo.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Fippinger Funeral home in Aledo, with the Rev. John Crede officiating. Burial is in the Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, where memorials may be made to the Aledo United Methodist Church or Serenity Hospice.
He was born Jan. 6, 1916, in Mercer County, a son of Fred and Edna Riddell McCreight. He attended Sunbeam Grade School and Aledo High School and married Mary L. Ashley June 29, 1937, in Peoria, Ill.
Vern was employed at the L & G Grocery Store in Aledo for several years and later became a Standard Oil Agent in Aledo for 35 years, retiring in 1978.
He was a member of the Aledo United Methodist Church and the Mercer County Senior Citizens Center. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; one daughter, Karen Greer, Aledo; and two grandchildren and spouses, Todd and Ellen Greer, Elmhurst, Ill., and Corey and Tedra Greer, Rock Island; four great-grandchildren, Derek, Adam, Sean and Anna Greer; and two brothers, Clarus McCreight, Alexis, and Larry McCreight, Aledo. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
