Elsa Puckett

A memorial service will be held Feb. 27 for Elsa E. Puckett of Eugene, Oregon, who died Feb. 18 of age-related causes. She was 93.

Puckett was born Feb. 25, 1910, in Tipton, Okla., to John and Linnie Manis Adams. She married Harvey Puckett in Madison, Wis., on Feb. 22, 1942. He died Dec. 26, 1991.

She received a bachelor's degree in English, magna cum laude, from Southwestern State University in Oklahoma. She received a master's degree in speech from the University of Wisconsin.

She lived in Madison and Milwaukee, Wis., Socorro, N.M., and the California cities of Redlands and Auburn before settling in Eugene in 1993.

Puckett worked as a first-grade teacher for 11 years and taught speech and English at Pierce Junior College for two years.

She was a member of the National Education Association.

She was also a member of the PEO Sisterhood and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed writing poetry, stories and articles.

Survivors include three sons, John of Klamath Falls, Charles of Eugene and James of Seattle; two daughters, Mary Payne of Nice, France, and Martha Reyneveld of Seattle; and seven grandchildren.

Friday's service will be held at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Eugene. Burial will be in Newcastle, Calif. Sierra Foothills Funeral Service in Auburn is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
