Funeral services for Mrs. J. L. Adams, who passed away at the home of her Son, John D. Adams, Monday, July 13 [1942], were held at the First Baptist Church at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon with Dr. M. F. Ewton, pastor, in charge of the rites.
The large crowd of friends and relatives and beautiful floral pieces bespoke the high position Mrs. Adams held among her many friends and acquaintances. The choir of the First Baptist Church sung two of the favorite songs of Mrs. Adams, "Must Jesus Bear the Cross Alone?" and "Someday We'll Meet Again." Dr. Ewton read the Twenty-Third Psalm and a portion of the fourteenth chapter of John, two passages of scripture beloved by the deceased. Mr. and Mrs. John Hodges gang a duet, "God Leads Us Along." Dr. Ewton touched on the faith, hope and love of Mrs. Adams. In his message he said, "To her death is gain. Life is like a great sea; no vessel sailing upon its treacherous bosom is safe ‘til it has reached port and cast anchor."
Members of the T. E. L. class of which Mrs. Adams was a member attended in a body as honorary flower bearers.
Out-of-town relatives who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Mattie Woodrell, Lawton; Mrs. Ethel Pettijohn and son, Lawton; Mr. and Mrs. Reagan Bostick and children, Lawton; Mr, and Mrs. Oscar McCosh, Elgin; Mr. and Mrs. Ray McCosh, Chattanooga; Miss Bertha Manis, Lawton; Mr. and Mrs. Milton Pyler and son, Altos; Mrs. C.
