John Cargill Jones was born June 9th 1795, a son Capt. John and Lucy Binns (née Cargill) Jones (a soldier of the Revolution) and the grandson of Col. John Jones, of Brunswick County, a member of the Virginia house of burgesses, 1772 to 1775, and president of the Virginia senate, 1787-1788, the great-grandson of John Jones, son of Peter Jones, the founder of Petersburg, Va. The Jones family were prominent early settlers in Prince George and Brunswick counties.
Rev. Jones married Miss Mary Ann Walker on the 26th of September 1822. This union was blessed with the following known children:

Around 1844, Rev. Jones, Mary and children emigrated west and settled in Wilcox County, Alabama. Here he supplied several baptist churches and later became of pastor of Camden Baptist Church.
