--Miss Bird Hatcher who has been teaching school in Macon County [Missouri] for several months, and who had been employed to teach the spring term in the Freeman district west of town {Shelbyville], left yesterday for Pocatello, Idaho, where she has accepted a position as one of the assistant teachers of the public school there. She received word from there by telegram last Saturday, and immediately came to her home near this city to prepare for the long journey. She is an accomplished, bright young lady, and we hope will win fame in the faraway state.

--Mrs. Russell Abbott [Bird (Hatcher) Abbott] and little daughter Marion of Denver, Colorado, arrived last week at the home of her mother Mrs. O. M. Hatcher, on a two months' visit. Her father W. R. Hatcher of Allen, Kansas, also accompanied Mrs. Abbott here [Shelbyville, Missouri] on a visit. (July 1903)

Mr. Abbott travels for the American Steel & Wire Co. of Chicago.
