Obituary for Charles D. Hatcher (September 15, 1938)
Funeral services for Dr. Charles D. Hatcher, 81, of Admire [Kansas], who died Thursday afternoon in the Newman Memorial County Hospital at Emporia, will be held in the Admire Methodist Church at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Rev. H. G. Dutcher, pastor, will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Admire cemetery.

Dr. Hatcher, who was Lyon County's oldest practicing doctor, was born near Mt. Sterling, IL, November 23, 1857. After marrying Miss Ada Markley in Ohio in 1884, he and Mrs. Hatcher came to Kansas, settling north of where later the town of Admire was founded. The country practice which he developed continued large until recent years when because of his age and health less work was done. He moved to Admire when that town was founded coincident with the construction of the Missouri Pacific Railroad through Lyon County.

Mrs. Hatcher died in April 1937. While Dr. Hatcher at one time had three brothers and four sisters, only one brother and one sister survive. They are Frank Hatcher of Shelbyville, MO, and Miss Daisy Hatcher of Los Angeles, CA. The Hatchers had no children.

A week ago Monday, Dr. Hatcher went to Missouri to visit his brother on his way back to Ohio where he intended to visit. While at his brother's home he became sick, and was brought back to Kansas. He entered the hospital in Emporia Wednesday. The principal cause of death was said to have been diabetes. His death ended a career of 54 years as a Lyon County doctor.
