Betty married Lieutenant William B. (Jack) Harrell, Jr. in the chapel at the Midland Army Air Force Base January 30, 1943. As a devoted mother, she cared for her two children, continued her membership in the Episcopal Church, and served on the alter guild for a time. She also was an ardent golfer at Golfcrest and Braeburn Country Clubs. She worked in the family insurance agency and later served as an officer in the Harrell, Young and Braniff Agency until her retirement in 1988.
Married over 65 years, Betty and Jack especially enjoyed spending time with their dear friends, creating many special memories at the Bay, Texas Hill Country, West Texas, and numerous other destinations.
She is survived by her husband; son William B. Harrell, III (Bill); and daughter Jan Elizabeth Harrell, all of Houston; as well as numerous family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association, Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Scott Funeral Home in Alvin, Texas. The family will welcome visitors beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Confederate Cemetery, Harrell family area.
Honorary pallbearers are: Marshall Pearson, Kenneth Miears, Bob Young, Rick Rule, Michael Jackson, Gilbert Miears and Noel Braniff.
