MRS. AMANDA MARGARET WHITE

Mrs. Amanda Margaret White, life long resident of this vicinity, died at her home on West Braden avenue on Thursday evening, June 28, 1934, at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 21 days, after months of intense suffering.

Last October she received serious injuries in an automobile accident near Sioux City, and later serious complications arose, necessitating an operation. For nearly nine months her sufferings were almost unbearable, but throughout she was extremely patient and always glad to have visitors.

Funeral services, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Frederick Nichol, of the First Presbyterian church, were held at the Beardsley Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, and burial took place in the Chariton cemetery.

Amanda Margaret McFarland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. McFarland, was born on a farm three miles west of Chariton on July 7, 1862. She grew to womanhood in that vicinity and was married to George W. White on March 3, 1880. To this union three children were born, Harry, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Mrs. Ethel Whittlesey, of Littleton, Colorado, and Mrs. Edna Beem, of Chariton.

The son from Louisiana and the daughter from Colorado visited her during her illness, and their presence and that of the daughter here were a great comfort and consolation to her. Mrs. Whittlesey came from Colorado for the last rites, but the son was unable to be here.

Besides the three children, Mrs. White is survived by seven grandchildren, Marlene, Mahlon and George White, of Louisiana, Paul Whittlesey, of Colorado, and Eloise, Betty and Doris Beem, of Chariton, and by two brothers and one sister, Wilmer McFarland, of Chariton, Frank McFarland, of Casper, Wyoming, and Mrs. Sarah Blair, of Creighton, Nebr. Her husband preceded her in death in February, 1918.

Mrs. White was a grand, good woman, devoted to her family and friends but ever ready to serve or assist others in need. She had been an active and faithful member of the Presbyterian church for many years, and was also a member of the Rebekah, Eastern Star and White Shrine orders.
