"Virginia May Barton, 60, of Route 2 died at 7:58 a.m. Monday, Feb 18, 1985 at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin. She had been ill for 15 months and hospitalized since Thursday. Mrs. Barton was born Aug. 22, 1924 at Girard to A. D. (Bun) and Sylvia Prideaux Appier. She had lived in the Girard-Pittsburg area all her life except for 10 years in Grove, Oklahoma. She was a veteran of World War II, serving in the WACS. She was also a member of the BPW of Jay, Ok. She was married to Virgil C. Barton on Oct 8, 1983 in Pittsburg. He survives. Additional survivors include two daughters, Virginia Schneider of Frontenac and Jackie Johns of Arcadia; two stepdaughters, Della Hohl of Pittsburg and Betty Geifer of Emporia; two stepsons, Charles Barton of Girard and Edward Polchlopek of Coffeyville; one brother, Johnnie Appier of 604 W. Fourth; one sister Helen Guerrero of Belleville, NJ; five grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Friskel Funeral Home in Girard, with the Rev. Joe Wells officiating. Burial will be in the Girard City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Friskel Funeral Home, Girard."
