Gilbert J. Nichols, aged 74, of Toronto, passed away Sunday, 23 November 2008, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born 25 February 1933, in New Cumberland, West Virginia. He was a son of George Arthur Nichols, Sr. and Anna Elizabeth Spriggs Nichols.

Gilbert was a Methodist, a long-time member of the Toronto Dyer Country Club, and a 1952 graduate of Toronto High School.

He retired in 1992 after 30 years with Ohio Edison (First Energy), where he was a Mechanical Supervisor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by brothers David Edward, George Arthur, Jr., Ralph William and Richard Maywood and by sisters Velva Lillian, Geneva Charlotte, Millicent Edith, Bessamae (Mrs. John Griffith), Imogene and Jean Isabel (Mrs. Clarence Martin, Jr.).

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Anne (Evans) Nichols, whom he married 21 April 1956, by five children - Judith Nichols and Curtis Nichols, both of St. Augustine, Florida, Greg Nichols of Toronto, Mark (Michelle) Nichols of Steubenville and Keith Nichols, also of St. Augustine - and by two sisters, Helen Lorain (Mrs. Elbert Ronshausen) of Salem, Ohio, and Janet Geraldine (Mrs. Richard Iltis) of Empire.

There will be a private service at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Charity Hospice, Post Office Box 2483, Wintersville, Ohio, 43953. Arrangements by Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto, Ohio.
