Orangeburg - Asbury Willard Ackerman, 78, a retired employee with Ethyl Chemical Plant, died Friday in a local hospital. The funeral will be at 4:30 p.m. today in Thompson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Ackerman was born in St. George, a son of Stephen N. Ackerman and Mary Dukes Ackerman. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Woodmen of the World. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Marian Scott Ackerman; three stepdaughters, Louise Lyons, Betty Baltzigar and Nancy J. Jameson, all of Orangeburg; two stepsons, J.E. 'Jimmy' Johnson of St. Matthews and Charles Davis of Neeses; a brother, Stephen N. Ackerman Jr. of Columbia; two sisters, Sarah Patterson and Helen Acker, both of Spartanburg; several step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren. © The Post and Courier, Charleston, SC, 5 Jun 1994
