August Arthur Baetsle, 88, of East Grove Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away following an illness at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, in his residence.
August was born in South Bend on August 3, 1911 to Pieter and Leontine Claeys Baetsle, who preceded him in death. August was a life long area resident.
He retired in 1976 from the Bendix Corporation after 42 years of service. August was a member of the East United Methodist Church and AARP.
On July 18, 1936 in Mishawaka, August married Mary June Castleman, who survives. He is also survived by two sons, August E. Baetsle of Mishawaka and Bradley A. Baetsle of Indianapolis, Ind.; nine grandchildren, Joanne M. Rendall of Mishawaka, Diane E. Wittendorf of Constantine, Mich., Cheryl A. Baetsle of Wethersfield, Conn., Suzanne M. Scheller of Champlin, Minn., Bryan A. Baetsle of Wasilla, Alaska, Robert Baetsle of Largo, Fla., Emily Wann of Indianapolis, Charles (Carey) Baetsle of Indianapolis and Jennifer Baetsle of Indianapolis; eleven great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Mary Walinski of East Lansing, Mich.
August was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Rene Baetsle; a stepfather, Gustav Uitdenhowen and a half brother, Arthur Uitdenhowen.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, Ind., where friends called two hours prior to services. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery.
