Mary June Baetsle
Sept. 27, 1916 - July 10, 2009

MISHAWAKA - Mary June Baetsle, 92, from Mishawaka, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2009, in her residence in the care of her loving son, August E. Baetsle. Mary June was born on September 27, 1916, in Mishawaka, to the late Carl J. and Gladys H. (Elliott). Her father, Carl, was the former mayor of Mishawaka from 1939-1943.

As the former Mary June Castleman, she married August Arthur Baetsle on July 18, 1936, in Mishawaka. August passed away on March 29, 2000. Mary June and August A. Baetsle shared 63 years of marriage together.

Survivors include two sons, August E. Baetsle of Mishawaka and Bradley A. (Andrea) Baetsle of Speedway, IN. Mary June was a loving and caring grandmother to nine grandchildren, Joanne Rendall of Mishawaka, Diane Wittendorf of Granger, Suzy Scheller of Champlin, MN, Bryan Baetsle of Wasilla, AK, Robert Baetsle of Dundedin FL, Emily Wann, C. Carey Baetsle and Jennifer Caplinger, all from Indianapolis, IN.

Her granddaughter, Cheryl Baetsle, preceded Mary June in death in September 2003, and she was also preceded in death by her brother, Harry Castleman in 1984. Harry's wife, Helen, survives.

Mary June was also a great-grandmother to 18 great-grandchildren.

Mary June graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1934 and then attended the South Bend College of Commerce. She was briefly employed at Ball-Band and at her father's business, Castleman Coal Company. Mary June became a devoted housewife and mother to her family. She enjoyed dancing and sewing. She continued to sew in her later years. Mary June was also a member of the East United Methodist Church.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 13, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation two hours prior, with the Rev. Mark Zerkel officiating, at the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, IN. The burial is to follow the service at Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka. Memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637 .
