This is NOT Judge Robert Mooney who was born c1801 in SC and lived with his wife Levyna "Vina" Hope in Hall & Forsyth Counties, GA. (See Find A Grave #97014520.)

+++ +++ +++

THIS Robert Mooney born c1827 is the son of John Mooney, Sr. and his 2nd wife Mary (Hubbard) Mooney. Robert married Elizabeth Cochran/Cockram on 12 May 1848 in Hall Co., GA. They had at least 5 children:

M. J.(?Mary Jane) Mooney b. c1849
Raymond S. Mooney b. Jan 1850
George W. Mooney b. c1852
Levyna Mooney b. c1858
Liley Mooney b. c1860

During the War Between the States, Robert joined the CSA at the age of 35:

10 Mar-10 Apr 1862 - mustered into CSA as Pvt. at Camp McDonald near Big Shanty, GA; Co. F, 43rd GA Vol. Reg. "Hall Light Guards".

16 May 1863 - captured at Baker's Creek, MS.

Jul 1863 - paroled at Ft. Delaware, DE.

06 Jul 1863 - exchanged at City Point, VA.

21 Jul 1864 - captured near Decatur, GA.

16 Dec 1864 - died at Camp Chase, Columbus, Franklin Co., OH. Cause of death was "diarrhoea"[sic] while a POW. How tragic to go through all of that War and then die of diarrhea - so many did! More soldiers died from disease than died from war wounds.
