Benjamin Naylor moved to Macomb in 1833 and bought the SW¼ of section 29 and the NW¼ of section 32; he built a cabin on the SW¼ of section 29. Benjamin T. Naylor was the son of Benjamin Naylor, of English descent. He began learning the carpenters trade at age 19 and his first piece of work was a railing for a flight of stairs in the State Pen. at Lexington, KY; he received $600 for that work; he later helped build the first McDonough County courthouse and built a frame house in Macomb, the first of its kind here; he abandoned the trade in 1842 and began farming in Emmet twp. In 1831 he married Adeline Bailey, a native of VA; they had 6 children – John J.; Wm. B., George W., Sibian; Martha C. and Albert. Four sons served in the Civil War; Sibian, John, and Martha C. died prior to 1885. His wife died in Jun 1880 and was buried along with her children in the Old Macomb Cemetery. George moved to Dakota; Benjamin T. died Dec 8, 1883 in Hire twp. and his death was caused by a runaway team of horses.
