William Ulysses Parks, called Will, was born on October 3, 1870 in Dexter, Dallas, Iowa, son of Isaac James Parks and Mary Catherine Ortman Parks. Will worked as a carpenter. Family lore indicates Will spent some time in San Francisco and while there he played in the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. It was told that he could play any instrument and was very talented in music. In 1912, a news articles indicated he lived in Oakland, California and a 1918 California Voter Registration shows him in Alameda, California. In 1921 he entered the Salem State Hospital and died there on August 9, 1921.
