Aged Resident of Mt. Auburn, Invalid 14 Years, Dies Friday
Aug 26 - Mrs. Lucy Thaxton, wife of George E. Thaxton, died suddenly in her home in Mt. Auburn Friday night, at the age of 75 years. Miss Lucy Bloxam, daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Henry Bloxam, was born Feb 11, 1854, in Mt. Auburn, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to Frank Fowkes, to which union was born one son, Henry L. Fowkes of Chicago formerly county superintendent of schools, Christian county. She was later united in marriage with George E. Thaxton in the year of 1880. They resided on a farm east of Mt. Auburn until the year of 1909 when they moved to Greenfield where they resided until 1920 at which time they retired from their farm ad purchased a home in Mt. Auburn, where they have since resided.
Seven children were born to this union, one being deceased. The following with the husband survive: four sons, Grover and Kirk Thaxton of Greenfield; Raymond Thaxton of Decatur, and Norman of St. Louis, and two daughters, Mrs. Rachel Hirst and Mrs. Abbie Hooper of Decatur; also three brothers, Arthur Bloxam of Taylorville, Edward Bloxam, Reddick and Charles Bloxam of Decatur. Also seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was a member of the Christian church. She has been an invalid since June 15 1925, when she fell and fractured her left hip. Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Sunday in the Christian church, Rev. W. F. Hole, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Auburn cemetery.
