Elizabeth Moore. Just before John was born, the family moved from Iredell County, NC to Oglethorpe County, Georgia
along with many of their neighbors (Gilberts, Gracey's, Ramseys, Hughs, Lawrences) who
had also migrated from Rowan to Oglethorpe and then Maury. In Oglethorpe John's
father died in the first years of 1800 and his mother moved the family to Tennessee a
few years later. John first married Lavinia Kincaid and, after her death, Mary
D. Curry. He farmed and was a blacksmith in Giles County most of his life before
moving to Lawrence County late in life. One son, John Franklin Moore, was a lawyer in Marshall County but died only five years after his father.
