ANNA E. 'BETTY' GUNBY DIES IN TEXAS AT 86
FREDERICKSBURG, TX -
Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Elizabeth Wynne (Betty) Gunby of Fredericksburg, Texas, former resident of Rayville, were held on Thursday, November 5, 1998, in Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Larry Altman officiating.

Mrs. Gunby died November 2, 1998, in Hill County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.

A native of York County, Virginia, she was born August 12, 1912, one of seven children of the late Georgia B. and Richard H. Wynne.

Following her marriage to the late Colonel Thomas Standifer Gunby, (who died in 1967) member of a prominent northeast Louisiana family, she lived in Rayville, Union Parish, Louisiana, where she was active in town and parish activities and civic organizations. While in Rayville she became quite well known as a writer for the Richland Beacon News (By the Boeuf with Beth), especially about residents along the Boeuf River. She worked closely with her husband in preparing information about the river, which later was instrumental in having the Gunby Dam in the south part of the parish being approved and brought to fruition.

She also authored a book on the history of the Methodist Church in Louisiana.

During World War II, she served as a major in the Army Nurse Corps, seeing duty in India and the Philippine Islands theaters.

Following the war, she devised and over saw the first program for medical inspection of nursing homes in Louisiana. After her move to Fredericksburg in 1976, she was active in community affairs there. Twice she was chairman of the Candlelight Tour, worked with the Pioneer Museum, volunteered in the Hospital Thrift Shop and displayed her crafts in the United Methodist Women (WMU) Bazaar, Comfort Art Guild, and the Emporium in Johnson City.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, Helen Tainter Circle, Rose Society and the Fredericksburg Historical Society.

Throughout her adult life she was active in the arts, particularly in water colors and was a world traveler.
