This obituary from The Columbus Journal (Columbus, NE), dated June 10, 1903 is a year different than what is on her tombstone. Further research needs to be done to regarding the probable mistake on the tombstone.

"Mrs. Tibbles, wife of the editor of the Bancroft Independent, died May 26, at their home near that village. Mrs. Tibbles, born Susette La Flesche, was the daughter of an Omaha Indian chief who, among others, signed over the Omaha lands to the governement in 1854. Mrs. Tibbles, who is known through her articles in magazines as "Bright Eyes," was talented as an artist as well as a writer. She
was said to be the only known Indian illustrator, and received her art education in the State university art school. She married Mr. Tibbles who was at the time a government official. A number of years ago Mr. and Mrs. Tibbles made an extended lecture tour over the United States and Great Britain arousing public sentiment upon the Indian question which resulted in many laws being passed helpful to that race."
