In 1901 they had migrated to Lafayette, Yamhill, Oregon where they purchase a 240 acre farm call the Judge Denny Place. There siblings Myrtle Wilma, Nina Elsie, and Fred were born, Nina and Fred being twins. Fred died at birth.
The family next moved to Bachelor's Island located in the Columbia River near Richfield, Washington. Alice would row her younger siblings to school in a boat from the island every day. This was a terrifying experience for her as she never had learned to swim.
It was here at Bachelor's Island that the family lived when Mabel lost her life to lymphoma of the hip in August of 1906.
