Pvt Edward Beal, born in Jonesport, Washington, Maine, to Edward & Mary Ann (Church) Beal, their 6th son and 8th child. He was a Seaman by occupation. At about 20 years of age, he answered President Lincoln's call, and on 11 June 1864, he enlisted in the Union Army of the United States of America, during the Civil War. While serving in Company A, 2nd Infantry Regiment Massachussetts, Edward died, 26 Dec 1864 at Madison, Indiana, 6 months after his enlistment. Edward died of Phthisis Pulmonary, probably related to tuberculosis as it was an epidemic of the time. It saddens my heart that you were laid to rest so far from your home, but 2nd Great Granduncle, you will never be forgotten. RIP
