Linda Dortha Bailey Kacinec, I always loved that name and not just because she was my mom. I always thought it had a regal sound to it. Mom grew up on a dairy farm in the West Virginia hills of Lewis County. After graduation from high school she went to nursing school. She graduated Magna Cum Laude. She worked in a hospital and as a private duty nurse. After mom and dad moved to Ohio she ran the First Aid station at WPAFB. She retired from active nursing when I was born but she was always the neighborhood nurse. Everyone came to her with their ailments. She was tall, 5'9" and had clear blue eyes. We call them the Bailey Blues. She had a beautiful smile, an infectious laugh and she never met a stranger. Mom enjoyed watching baseball, playing cards and their weekend getaway place at the lake. She was the perfect grandmother. Mom started feeling bad in March of 1985. The end of March we were told she had lung cancer. To our surprise she died May 1, 1985. Way too young. I still miss her to this day but I know she is watching over me as always. I thank God for giving her to me. She was the best mom.

Linda Dortha Bailey was born July 7, 1916. She was the sixth child, fifth daughter born to Samuel Henry Bailey and Amy Bessie Lovett Bailey. She was raised on a dairy farm on Simpson Run, Lewis County, WV. Linda graduated from Weston High School 1934, and graduated Cum Laude from St. Mary's School of Nursing, Clarksburg, WV.

She worked as a private duty nurse, supervisor at Weston Hospital and ran the First Aid Station at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, OH. She died of lung cancer at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Dayton, OH.
