Esther Yonash was born February 11, 1897 in Shelby County, Iowa to Peter Jacobsen and Anna Katherine (Kate) Martes. On 11 April 1918, she married Frank Yonash, who had a homestead near her parents homestead in Plevna, Fallon Co., Montana. She and Frank then lived on his homestead. When their son Robert was born, Ester went to her mother's home in Wadena, Minnesota for the birth. In 1920, their second child, Rosale, was born at home. Rosalie died at age 5
of nephritis, complicated by scarlet fever.

1927, Frank suffered a heart attack, and the family sold the homestead and moved to California. Initially, he and wife Esther managed the Winton Apartment Hotel, which included a speakeasy. In 1932, Frank's sister Louisa Yonash Aksamit died, leaving her five children orphaned. The Aksamits came to live with Frank, Esther, and Bob. The next year, Frank and Esther bought a farm in Bellflower and the extended family relocated. Esther worked while Frank farmed.

In 1949, Frank and Esther moved again, to a ranch near Iowa Hill, Placer Co., California where they lived for the remainder of their lives.

Obituary from the Colfax Record
Colfax, California, October 13, 1966

All of Iowa Hill was saddened by the passing of one of its senior citizens last week. Mrs. Esther Yonash, who was back in Minnesota receiving treatment for her arthritis suddenly passed away. Graveside services were conducted here at the Iowa Hill Cemetery for her last Saturday [October 8th] at 1:30. A large group of relatives and friends paid their respects and she was laid to rest alongside her husband Frank, and her brother Gordon "Jake" Jacobsen. We will always remember her for her cheery smile despite the pain and suffering she endured from her illness.
