Willard Cornelius Hulse, the son of William and Lena (Dado) Hulse, was born July 28, 1905, on a farm near Friend, Nebraska.

He grew to manhood as the seventh of 10 children of pioneer parents. He attended rural school through the eighth grade. He then entered the vocation of farming and continued until his health failed last year.

February 20, 1934, he was married to Evelyn Nemec of Dorchester, Nebraska, and they lived on a farm nearby. To this union was born one daughter, Beverly.

On December 25, 1935, his wife, Evelyn, passed away, leaving Willard and their month-old daughter. He then moved to a farm south of Friend.

On May 26, 1937, he married Edith Boden of Crete. She was a close friend of his first wife. Together, with his little daughter, they began a marriage that continued past the 40th year. They were blessed with two sons and seven daughters.

In 1942, they moved to Fairmont and continued farming in this general area. He began semi-retirement 10 years ago, and lived on an acreage near town. He was then employed by Memorial Vault Co. for several years.

On the morning of February 8, 1977, he entered the Fillmore County Hospital and during the day he suffered massive paralytic strokes from which he never recovered. he answered the Homeward summons on August 21, 1977, at the age of 72 years and 23 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; two sisters, Cecil Johnson of Loup City, and Flossie Arends of Des Moines, Iowa.; four brothers, Corodyn, August, Edward and Jessie, all of Friend; an infant granddaughter, Francine Thompson of Fairmont.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Edith; children, Marvin, Cynthia and Crystal at home, Mrs. William (Beverly) Ely of Lincoln, Mrs. George (Donna) Thompson of Fairmont, Mrs. Del (Janice) Galusha of Fairmont, Mrs. Rex (Judith) Becker of Kingman, Arizona, Charles Hulse of Fairmont, Mrs. Don (Suzanne) Languis of Panama, Mrs. James (GLoria) Swartz of Omaha; six sons-in-law, William Ely, George Thompson, Del Galusha, Rex Becker, Don Languis and James Swartz; one daughter-in-law, Connie Hulse; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Wilbur and wife, Hilda of Ohiowa; two sisters, Mrs. Mae Spencer of Ravenna and Mrs. Chloie Buckingham of Winside; three sisters-in-law, Grace Hulse, Alba Christensen and Alletta Ondrack, all of Friend; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted from the Fairmont Community Church at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 24, 1977, with Rev. Jay Vetter officiating.

Mrs. Marvin Swartz accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Roland Hall, who sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus."

Pallbearers were Gilbert Albro, Ralph H. Keil, Harold Dawson, Floyd Lott, Dwight Fassnacht and Leslie Miles. Interment was in the Fairmont Cemetery.
