THOMAS EMERSON "EM" BALLARD, 69, of Bardstown, formerly of Holy Cross, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville. He was born March 7, 1929, in Holy Cross, was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, a member of the American Legion Old Kentucky Home Post 121 in Bardstown, retired after 35 years with Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown, and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius Robert Ballard and Mary Emma Medley Ballard; a daughter, Emma Jane Ballard; two brothers, Patrick Jerome Ballard and Joseph Anthony Ballard. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Grace) Cambron and Nora Jean Ballard, both of Bardstown; four sons, Bruce Ballard of Hodgenville, Roger Ballard of Morongo Valley, Calif., Glenn Ballard of Holy Cross and Ralph Ballard of Bardstown; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Cornelia "Sis" Mattingly of Loretto, Mary Ann Peake of Lebanon and Rose Alice Wilson of Howell, Mich., three brothers, Pete Ballard of Richmond, Ind.; Firmin Ballard of Macedonia, Ohio; and Jude Ballard of Louisville.
A private graveside service will be held later at St. Joseph Cemetery. The Rev. Stephen A. Pohl will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, from 4 to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. at Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto. Memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association in Kentucky, 207 Speed Building, Louisville. Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
