Earl McBride Carter, 76, of Hurley, MS., went home to be with Jesus on December 20, 2002. He was born February 12, 1926 and was a member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God Church in Agricola. He taught the Adult Sunday School Class for many years.

An accomplished musician, playing both the mandolin and the guitar, he was a lover of bluegrass gospel music. Carter had several bluegrass gospel records to his credit on which he wrote most of the songs that he sang. He also loved to go freshwater fishing. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a pipefitter and a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local No. 436 at Ingalls Shipbuilding where he had worked for thirty-one years before retiring in 1984.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earlie M. & Loda Mae Carter, and two brothers, Jarrold Carter and Lenny Carter.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mrs. Juanita [Jones]Carter; two sons Freddy and Sonja Carter of Lucedale and Robert and Carla Carter of Hurley; one daughter, Gloria and Mackie Amacker of Noxapater, one sister, Nita Gay and Bobby Goff; two brothers, Byran "Tink" and Glenda Carter and Larry and Corma Carter. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Monday, December 23, 2002, from 10 until 11 a.m. at Magnolia Springs Assembly of God Church in Hurley. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. James F. Coleman, Rev. Rodney Coleman, and Bro. Jerry Goff officiating. Interment will follow in Magnolia Springs Cemetery, Hurley, MS. '

Pallbearers will be Michael O'Quinn, Jeremy Carter, Jason Carter, Buddy Cumbest, Craig Nelson, Steve Goff, Lee Hancock and Seth Rigdon. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to: Southern Care Hospice 14507 Lemoyne Blvd., Building 2, Suite B, Biloxi, MS., 39532. Family members wanted to thank Southern Care Hospice.
