Willard married Lois (Oakes) on 10/06/1793 in Canaan, ME. She was one of eight children born to Jonathan Oakes, Sr., and his fourth wife, Abigail (Rand). Lois was a twin to her brother, Levi Oakes.

Willard married his second wife, Lucy (Russell), in Canaan, ME. He bought land in Canaan Plantation in 1786; this part of Plantation was called "Canaan Gore" and was close to his father's farm and adjoined the land of his wife's sister and brother-in-law, Permelia (Oakes) and Sherebiah Lambert.

Willard enlisted in Colonel John Fellows Regiment on 04/21/1775, for 17 days of service. It states in his application that he went to Quebec on 09/09/1775. He enlisted a second time on 12/01/1775 in Captain Asa Whitcomb's Regiment and was also at Ticonderoga.

*Volunteer says he's buried in Lot #240 with wife Lois. Willard was originally buried in Homsted burial lot, Parkman Hill Cemetery, Canaan, ME. He was reburied in 1898 in North Cemetery, Skowhegan, ME, when Homsted burial ground was discontinued.
