Elbert L Gibbs was born in Alabama, He is shown in the 1860 Census in Vienna, Pickens County Alabama. Vienna was a ferry crossing and the town sat on the Tombigbee River. The Rail Road came thru a number of miles to the east and the town of Vienna slowly disappeared. The town is no more. Elbert and family moved to Plattsburg, Winston County, Mississippi about 1866-67. Plattsburg is no more, just a T intersection. Elbert and family then moved to Falls County, Texas about 1888-89. Between Kosse and Bremond Texas. The birth date 0f 1827 I think is incorrect. In different Census' Elbert was born as late as 1833/4. His older brother Alfred was born in 1827/30 and is buried in Oklahoma. Elbert married Sarah on 29 Aug 1855 in Louisville, Mississippi; Book 3, page 231 of the county records. His death certificate is recorded in Marlin, Falls County, Texas. A miss spelling on certificate has Elbert down as Albert. I had the name changed back to Elbert. Elbert served with the 40th Alabama Infantry, G Company, from March to July 1862. He was medically discharged.
